Transcript

Why do hot magnets lose their order? Each tile is a tiny magnet, up or down. Matching its four neighbors lowers the energy. Flipping against all four costs eight units. At this cool setting, that flip passes fewer than one try in two hundred. Now turn the heat up to three and a half. The same flip passes about one try in ten. Mismatches open faster than neighbors can close them, so the order breaks apart. Try it yourself at Explainer Tools dot com.
